In July 2020 the Council declared an Ecological Emergency, with greater emphasis being put on nature-based solutions to tackle climate change, habitat restoration and encouraging greater biodiversity within the district. An ambitious target to plant 100K trees was set, and a tree and woodland delivery plan developed.
We are now seeking a Tree and Woodland Manager to help us develop and deliver the Tree and Woodland Delivery Plan to meet our ambitions. If you have a background in arboriculture or implementing tree planting and are a confident communicator, then we’d love to hear from you. It will be important that you have experience of developing and planning tree planting schemes, writing grant applications and have hands on experience of working with communities, volunteers and contractors to plant large numbers of trees.
The key role of Tree and Woodland Manager will be to drive the Councils ambition to plant 100,000 trees by 2023. This role will involve liaison with councillors, parish & town councils, residents association, public sector bodies. The Community Forest, private landholders, the public and educational establishments, to identify suitable sites, to develop deliverable schemes and to seek grant funding.
This role is based within our Parks Team, who are passionate about caring for and developing our parks and green spaces throughout the district. Working alongside other tree professionals this role will ensure the right tree is in the right place considering species, landscape context and site size. For example, increasing canopy cover in Urban areas i.e. private gardens provide habitat refuges that support species which do not currently thrive in the that environment.
