Hours: 37 hours per week

As part of our focus to deliver a thriving and sustainable for people to live, work and visit, we need a positive and proactive senior Ecologist to help us deliver a wide range of exciting new developments whilst safeguarding our rich biodiversity. You need to have a “can do” approach to the management of the environment and the need to accommodate new development; the skills, knowledge and experience to provide advice on the management of our natural environment; excellent communication and liaison skills; and be confident in working in a team to help achieve the Council’s objectives for managing growth.
You will need experience of managing staff and leading on complex planning cases be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of how to resolve ecological planning issues. There will also be opportunities to work with colleagues who deliver strategic planning, countryside and wildlife sites management, biodiversity enhancement, data recording and working with volunteers.
You work will include prioritising responses to planning applications to meet tight deadlines, compiling reports and assisting colleagues with work priorities, specifications, plans and supervising external contractors.
You will have experience in a similar role, preferably within a local authority, or hold a relevant qualification to level 6 or above.
You should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be computer literate.
Whilst the COVID restrictions are in place the role will be mainly working from home.
